Dr. Murari Lal Thakur, Ph.D. in Zoology (Ornithology) from Himachal Pradesh University Shimla, HP. He started his research career as JRF at Zoological Survey of India, Solan in 2000. He was awarded with Young Scientist Scheme by Department of Science and Technology (Govt. of India), in 2008 (2009-2012) on ‘Population status and habitat-use pattern of vultures in Himachal Pradesh’. He has been associated with research, management and planning on environment, ornithology, vulture & wildlife related issues for more than 17 years. During these years he has served many S&T Institutions like Department of Environment, Science & Tech. (GoHP); HP State Council for Science, Tech. and Environment; Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla; Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies, Shimla and Zoological Survey of India, Solan. He has travelled to every corner of the North India, including cold desert regions of J&K (Ladakh & Kargil regions) and Himachal Pradesh. He has been associated with some Universities as an examiner and as paper setter for PG courses. He has published 5 books and some 60 research papers in National and International journals.

Also finished a diploma course in Business Management from International College of Linguistics, Auckland, New Zealand. Bachelors’ with Honors in Biotechnology from Himachal Pradesh University, H.P. alongwith a Certificate course in Bio Business Management. When in New Zealand was working as Predator controller at Deptt. Of Conservation (DOC) and CVNZ Mt. Eden, Auckland, New Zealand. Also looked after Pest control and network management with Conservation Volunteers (CVNZ), has worked in an ecological restoration programme: Friends of Oakley Creek. Has worked in various other projects namely: Ecological Restoration project at Waikato Peat Lake system at Lake Rotokauri, Hamilton, In Safe Hands CVNZ, Ecological Restoration project at Waikato Peat Lake system at Lake Rotokauri, Hamilton, Contributed voluntary assistance for Ecological restoration project at Waithakareke Natural Heritage Park, Hamilton. He has good experience of working in advance Molecular Systematic techniques like genetic analysis and phylogeny of various species.
